Telephone Operator

The telephone operator requires skill in operating telephone equipment (i.e. Cisco, Bettwy, and Turn Key systems) and lines to route incoming and outgoing calls. The use of telephone courtesy and tact is required in dealing with a diversity of callers, such as the hearing impaired and in some instances irate callers, under very difficult and stressful circumstances. The work also requires speed and accuracy, and in some instances it requires observing strict security measures. Duties include, but are not limited to:
Placing and receiving local calls. Placing and receiving regular and special long distance calls over commercial circuits or other systems and networks, such as a wide area commercial system, a military system, or a civilian Federal system exchange. Providing organizational information to callers using computerized or printed directories. Handling calls of varying priority and preempting circuits if necessary. Operating associated equipment, such as radios, paging systems, and secure-voice equipment. Monitors alarms which include Temp Track, Duress, Zone, Medical Gas, Trouble, and all Codes. (I.e. Blue, Adam, Rapid Response, etc.) Route undeliverable mail to appropriate service for processing. Update and maintain Employee Telephone Directory by adding new employees, updating current employees and deleting separated employees. Route faxes to appropriate staff members ensuring strict patient confidentiality. Assisting with incoming mail and out-going mail. Work Schedule:

Experience:
You must have one year of general experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-03 to include progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates the ability to complete the indicated competencies of the position. OR, Education:
Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have two years of education above high school . OR, Combination:
Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education beyond the one year of education above high school. You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position:

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
