PROCEDURE SCHEDULER
REPORTS TO: PROCEDURE SCHEDULING TEAM LEAD
RESPONSIBLE AND ACCOUNTABLE FOR:
Scheduling of GI surgical procedures
Precertification of procedures as determined by insurance
Scheduling procedures with hospital scheduling department
Knowledge of specific insurance requirements
Types complete information in the computer under the appropriate physician s schedule
Assembles appropriate facility procedure packet and consent.
Instructs patient on preparation for procedure
Supplies patient with teaching materials and brochure
Completing tasks timely, completely and correctly
Documents all information completely and thoroughly in patient s chart
Makes every effort to remain a flexible, cooperative and supportive member of the CGI office staff
Acts as a liaison between the provider and the patient
Maintains friendly open lines of communication between CGI and TEC
REQUIREMENTS AND EXPERIENCE
Minimum of two (2) years previous office experience, preferably with scheduling experience
Participation in ongoing continuing education
Good reading comprehension, legible and accurate handwriting, able to clearly communicate with patients, CGI, and other facilities
Able to deal compassionately, professionally, and courteously with patients, their families, physicians and fellow CGI staff
TYPICAL PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS:
Full range of body motion, including manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination
Bending, lifting and carrying
Extensive periods of sitting
Normal color perception and corrected visual acuity and hearing to normal range
Involvement with management, physicians, staff, and patients and their families
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Clean environment in a gastroenterology physician s office
Potential exposure to communicable diseases
DUTIES AND TASKS INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
Keeps all patient information, practice information and staff information confidential
Performs routine work under general supervision
Follows established procedures, referring all new or unusual questions/concerns to the team lead and/or site supervisor
Acts as patient advocate, ensuring a setting that protects the rights of the patient and provides an atmosphere that does not compromise the patient s physical or mental well-being, safety or dignity
Demonstrates knowledge of OSHA, Code Blue, Fire Safety measures
Maintains knowledge of, and complies with, established policies and procedures
Attends all required meetings
PROCEDURE SCHEDULING:
Calls patients and schedules procedures in a timely manner
Notifies hospital scheduling for procedure time confirmation
Types information in the computer under the appropriate physician s schedule.
Instructs patient on preparation for procedure
Supplies patient with teaching materials and brochures
Documents all information in patient s chart
Assembles appropriate facility or hospital packet and consent
Delivers the chart to precertification department in a timely manner being especially aware of timing for urgent or add-on procedures or immediate changes in the schedule

ATTENDANCE AND RELIABILITY:
Does not abuse or take advantage of sick time
Regular attendance is a necessity
Reports to work as scheduled and is able to complete all functions of job
Always provides proper notification and advance notice of absences
Reports to work, is at the assigned location, and ready to work at proper start time
Returns from 30-minute lunch on time
OTHER:
Maintains a well-groomed appropriate appearance
Maintains a clean, well-kept work area
Maintains a continuing education record
Performs other duties as required by the team lead and site supervisor
